Attract Birds to Your Yard

Looking for tips on how to attract birds to your yard? We spoke with Wayne Pence, Assistant Manager at the Yeager’s on Jenny Lind in Fort Smith. Wayne loves birds and enjoys helping you find the bird food, feeders and houses you need to enjoy bird watching in your yard. To see Wayne talking birds, click here or continue reading below.

MIGRATORY BIRDS
“Arkansas is in the middle of a migratory path so most of the birds that are going to be migrating south are going to come right through our state,” said Wayne. “The idea of putting the feed out is to make sure they can make their long path or to help those birds whose journeys end in the River Valley area. There are lots of birds this far south, so we want to make sure we’re doing our best to take care of them.”

BENEFITS OF BIRDS IN YOUR YARD
“There are lots of great reasons to help take care of our feathered friends,” said Wayne. “The biggest reason being that they help with pollination and they also get rid of the pesky insects.”

CAN I ATTRACT BIRDS WITHOUT A BIG YARD?
Wayne affirmed that you really don’t need a lot of land to attract birds. “You can have a balcony on an apartment and in that small of a space, still attract birds. They’ll find you if you’ve got a feeder and you keep it filled.”
